Some Layouts to Share

Alrighty, some layouts to share before I post more of my San Francisco trip Day 2 onwards.

First Up for Pink Sketches:

For Sketch #44

For Sketch #45

And guess what? Kelli is having a Design Team Search! If you fancy sketches and love scrapbooking, we welcome you to come join us!

Hop on over to our Pink Sketches blog for more details!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

This layout was delayed for Sept's challenge but I got it done anyway after recovering from a nasty cough and sore throat (I'm still recovering).

This month's challenge is all about your daily rituals and routines. To share them. So I just shared Daren's daily MUST-Have as part of his everyday routine.

Here it is:

------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the layout that I got done in Sunnyvale, C.A when I was over at Sarah's place:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm slowly catching my groove back in scrapping ... but work now is taking precedence in my priorities after my family.

I was just sitting and thinking what to scrap for my DT assignments, yet at the back of my brain I keep thinking about my workload... and I realized that scrapbooking and blogging can become full-time jobs all on their own!!

I was totally amazed at how some people I know of are "speedsters"! They can churn out 4-5 in a day!!!

(Pssst! You know who you are *winks*)

I can sometimes sit at my scrap table for an hour or two, stare at my photos and supplies and have them stare right back at me! And at times, I still cannot get anything done!

LOL!

So I'm gonna pace myself and not get stressed out with my DT work... if need be, I will request for a sabbathical break or a step-down...whichever works best for everyone (DT owners and myself).

I'm grateful and thankful that Dorcas (MomentsRecorded) and Edleen (Groovie Covers) are graciously covering for me during this period of time. Though I feel bad towards them both - I feel as though I'm letting them down in one way or another, but their friendship and support are so precious to me.

In the meantime, thank you for still coming by my blog from time to time.

Whoever you are.

And stay tune for more updates on SFO and RAKs!!!!!

I'm gonna be going through my stash and start to pull out items to de-stash!
Coz I'll be moving house in a couple months time and I seriously need to lessen my moving load.

How about this? Add yourselves as followers to my blog if you haven't already and to double your chance for winning a RAK, leave me a comment with the following:

1) Who you are and where you're from

2) Your blog addy (if any, so that I can leave you some love)

3) What you like about my blog/scrapbooking works.

Isn't that simple?

I think it's a fun way of getting to know you my fellow scrapblog friends!
International friends are welcome to join in too!

So join my blog and leave me some love by 20th Sept 2009 - 1159hrs Singapore Time!

Out of my dry spell

I've decided not to mull around too much and too long and got around to getting some scrapping done, it's only fair to my DT owners and fellow DT mates.

I've done a couple of layouts and here's two layouts to share:

Here's for The Story Matters:

10 of my favourite things.

I've taken tags from my various favourite brands of bags/clothing/Starbucks sleeve and put them together with a photo of family which is dearest to my heart and of course a photo of Daren snuggling up to me to represent hugs and cuddles from my boy.

Be sure to pop by the site and give some support to Penny and this month's host, Monica!

Next Up:

Here's for MomentsRecorded Challenge #14:

This challenge is clean and simple and to use 50% of white space of the layout. I think I only managed to achieve 45% white space I think. haha. But do visit the site and see what the awesome, new DT members did!

In the meantime, do play along with the challenges and destash some!

Pink Sketches would be back on Sunday with a new sketch!

So stay tune!

Let's Catch up!

This week over at DreamGirls is a card challenge!

In support for our Card Designer Eva who have been designing fabulous gorgeous cards btw! We had a card sketch from 2Sketches4you

The twist?
Stamping technique and diecuts to be included.

Here is my card:
The materials other than the cardstock and faux pearls are from my Scarlet Lime March Kit.

Be sure to check out what the other Divas did! Their cards are fanta-bu-lous!!

Do remember to load your cards onto DreamGirls Flickr Group!

----------------------------------------------------------

Over at The Story Matters.

Our Fabulous and uber talented Megan Klauer is hosting this month's challenge!

It's very simple. We had to share our favourite summer memory. And the best summer memories I had was in Perth Australia.

I did a 2-pager for this one:

Do come over and give us your support for this month's challenge yah?

I'm sure you have some awesome summer memories to share with us!

-------------------------------------------------------

Something for Pink Sketches, Sketch #35

Here's my layout on a photo taken last July at my cousin's wedding.

It's a group shot of all the cousins in my generation on my mom's side of the family.

I placed the layout into a Clear Scraps 12 x 12 Frame for my Uncle and Aunt to take back to Perth (they were in town recently and just flew home) to be placed in their home.

I started using my Little Yellow Bicycle Paper Stash that I had in the beginning of this year. :)

Simple but lovely! Don't ya think?

---------------------------------------------------------

For Groovie Cover-It Challenge this month.

Groovie Edleen chose this book cover:

Here is my layout inspired by the cover:

Gotta love me some Sassafrass lass!!!! Yay!

Be sure to check out the Groovie Cover Challenge Blog and look at the rest of the Cover Gals' works! I love the different takes on this one.

-------------------------------------------------------

Last but definitely not least.

I've been honoured over at Ed's Sketch blog as her Guest Designer this month. (Thanks Ed for the honor!)

A double-paged Sketch! (I really think Ed must have Sketched this layout for me! haha!)

So I did a layout for my Ferguson Valley experience in Perth here:

I hope you like this double paged I did. It's more photo heavy than anything else!

Be sure to check out Ed's Sketch Blog! The DT did such an amazing job!

-------------------------------------------------------

##Some Updates and a RAK Giveaway##

It's been a field week the past 6 days!

No doubt I was busy with Daren, but I was really happy doing it and entertaining him at home to distract him from the itchiness of his Chicken Pox. I feel the bond between my boy and I much much closer than before. It's really a difference as compared to being at work and so caught up with work that I lack the energy to actually spend playing and nuturing him when I get home at the end of the day.

How I long for the day that I can dedicate my time to my boy and my home!

Good news too!

We had a buyer for our home! The advertisement was out on last Thursday and by Saturday, we had a keen and confirmed buyer! The Option to Purchase was signed that night (it was their 3rd time back at the house, they came back a 2nd time with their parents to view the place in the early evening). I'm so glad that the couple is in love with the concept of our home :) I must add that this isn't possible without the Grace and Favor of our Lord Jesus! Not only that, we are able to sell the house above valuation! Imagine that! This is really His favor and goodness in our lives and to God be all the glory!!!

In the meantime, we'll be taking our time to look for an ideal home that's comfortable for our budget. I'm so glad that Dave and I took the time and sit down and work out our sums for the new home. What's the budget for a possible future single income, etc etc.

I just pray that the Lord will lead us into our Promise Land, in this case, a cosy home to grow our Chan family.

Thanks for dropping by today and staying on to the end of this post and I'm in such a delightful mood, I'm gonna dig out some of my treasured scrapbooking possessions of lasered chipboard and papers and little bits and pieces for a RAK!!!

**To double your chances of winning**

1) simply spread the word on your blog and link your blog together with your comments in my comments section.

(I would love to blog hop and visit your blog too!)

Just leave me a comment in this posting for a chance for a RAK by 10th June!!

Love,Sophia

Or rather, it's meant to be

"What did you want to be when you grew up"

OR "What DO you you want to be"

OR you can submit a layout about your child regarding this subject!

So I did a layout on Daren on what I think he might wanna be during this phase!

LOL!
(that's my perception of course, not his)

Without further adieu, here goes:

I've done this layout about 2 months back =)

I really had a fun time doing this layout!

Do come over and play along with us over at The Story Matters! I guarantee you that you will not be dissapointed with the new format that we've come up with and you will see more of the TSM Authors in action and involved.

Pink Sketches #22 and The Story Matters

*Updated post with picture of RAK*
This weeks sketch over at Pink Sketches:

Here's my take on the sketch:

Title: [D]aren

Description: I rotated the sketch to best suit my boy's portrait photo taken when he was in his Playgroup Class. I had fun with the papers, the alphas and the buttons - making the page look messy, busy and fun to look at! Isn't Playgroup meant to be like that - Fun?

Supplies used: American Crafts Cardstock, Cosmo Cricket Papers, October Afternoon Papers, K.I memories papers, Scrap Within Reach Chipboard Alphas and Numbers, Luxe Labels, 7-Gypsies 97% complete stickers and buttons. (From Scarlet Lime Oct'08 Kit)

I had fun doing this layout. Honestly, I had some challenge using this particular kit to play around with as most of the colours are quite fall-autumn colours. I'm glad that I found the right photo with the papers. I think it worked out splendidly cute!!

I had a busy/rough week and life happens...so I was late in handing in up my layout.

But I'm glad I got it done and submitted to Kelli =)

I hope you'll have fun with this sketch! Do come and play with us over at Pink Sketches yah?

----------------------------------------------------------
Heads up, a new challenge over at The Story Matters.

What is Satisfaction to you? What makes you pleased as punch and really satisfied?

Tell us! Share it with us in your long journalling!!

Start your title with "Satisfaction is..."

And here's my layout for the challenge:

{Satisfaction is my reward}

I substituted my photo with a block of journalling instead.

So what makes you satisfied???

Care to share them with me?
I'll make sure you are satisfied too with a surprise RAK!

Leave your comments in this posting yah?

I'll be looking forward to reading what satisfies you. And don't forget to come play along with us over at The Story Matters!

Thanks for looking once again! =)
----------------------------------------------

Here's the stamping-related RAK that I'm giving away!!

Quick! Dateline is 8th March 2009 1800hrs (Singapore time) before I do the drawing of a random winner!

What I struggle Most...

Yes, we are back!

Refreshed and ready for a brand new 2009!

So what do I struggle with most?

Let me think...

Chocolates

Carbs
Desserts
Sluggishness

They do sound weighty yah?

I mean, as I get to read more and more blogs,

I think it's a common problem among us women.

From the already skinny to those who are voluptously blessed with curvy figures.
(And no, we are not fat, just big-boned with slow metabolism - Ha!)

Well, you might have guessed it by now that I have weight issues with myself.

I'll let my layout and journalling do the talking yah?

Supplies from my LabelTulip October 2008 kit
(except for the Kraft and Brown cardstock)

Journalling reads:

In the recent years, this has always been a struggle for me - my weight: it was alright before I got married and had Daren as I had an active lifestyle; dancing actively in church, running with friends and hitting the gym. Right now, because of the kilos I've piled on over the last 5 years - 20kg to be exact - its left me feeling sluggish & lazy. I've tried to get back into the routine of gym but I couldn't. I felt guilty of not being around during Daren's bedtime if I did hit the gym.

Dieting is totally out for me as I still needed my carbs. Of course with the weight gain, other than the effect I felt on my body, It has affected my esteem over how I looked, always yearning back for the chiselled face and averagely ok 'bikini' body. It's a struggle with this weighty issue!!!

SO...

There.... that's sharing my story with you all.

And so,

Do play with us over at The Story Matters and share with us what you struggle with most. It could be anything from your relationships, spritually or even life.

Do give us your support once more yah?
------------------------------------------------------

As promised earlier in my previous posting.

Some other layouts I created also using my LabelTulip November 2008 kit.

(yeah, I know, I'm playing "catch-up" in using my kits to the uttermost)

This layout is for {Create}'s February Challenge.
About the person you love and why you love that very person.

So I used a photo from my wedding day from 4.5 years back.

Journalling reads:

If you hadn't done any lovey dovey layouts for the month of February, do hop on by {Create} to check them out!
--------------------------------------------------------------

This layout is for the challenge over at Scrappin Kids.
This challenge is for us to scrap about that one thing we love our lil' one and to use an adjective to describe that one trait we love about them.

So here's my take:
(Sigh....I don't feel that this is my best layout but am still happy with it)

Again, I played with my LabelTulip November Kit.

Journalling:

Isn't Daren one cheeky lil boo?

He really has got that glint in his eyes when the little light bulb goes off in his head!!

And nowadays,

he'll tell me ," Mummy, funny!"

When he sees something funny and giggles over it.

LOL.

And I just love him to bits!

He can be cheekily sweet too!!

-------------------------------------------------------------

Oh yes, over at LabelTulip,

Tulip Girl, Holly Hanks
(She totally rocks and is uber talented!!)

Had shared about her 1st attempt at SB and shared her 1st layout.

(Her 1st layout looks good!!! Gosh! That girl oozes with talent right from the beginning!!)

So I thought,
Maybe I can share my 1st layout with you ladies too.

Promise you don't laugh k?

I consider this my 1st piece after attending my 1st basic class at a local store about 2 years back.

Here goes:

{Expressions}

hehehehe.
I painfully stenciled out the alphas on cardstock and used craft knife to cut them out!
I was seriously worried that I migth have sliced off my fingers!
LOL!
So whatcha think?
Wanna share about your 1st layout ever with me?
(As well as over at LabelTulip's blog? They have a RAK!)

*Winks*
I hope you have a great week ahead!!!
XOXO
Sophia

I believe....

That's the theme for this fornight's challenge.

What do you believe in?
It could be anything from your faith/religion, to your beliefs, to your own point of view (personal or political) or even in Santa Claus!

Personally...

We (Dave and I) believe in the love of Christ in our lives.
And God is Love.

Therefore, we believe in love.

And here's my take on the challenge:

Journalling: We believe in love, & our Heavenly Father is love! Jesus is love personified & He had come to give us life and have it more abundantly - John 10:10. His grace in our lives has caused us to reign in life, to overcome our challenges & strengthen our marriage & our family. We believe in this grace and the charis of Christ & we build our faith & our family on that grace & love for us. We believe.

I hope you like this one.

I used my remaining K.I Memories Laced cardstock and my old Basic Grey's Scarlet Letter pattern paper mainly for this layout. I stuck down the laced cardstock and smeared some of my newly bought crackle paint in antique linen. After letting it dry, I used my finger and smeared some stickles over the dried paint and laced cardstock to give it some sparkle and texture.

And nope, you didn't see it wrongly.

I used the same photo from my previous layout for this challenge.

I totally love this photo that we took of ourselves with Dave's Sony Ericsson phone. And there's so much to share and tell in this stage and season of our lives.

So what is your belief?

What do you believe in?

Share it with me my friends =)

And of course share your take of your beliefs over at The Story Matters!

Name Your Indulgence!!! (Pre-Recorded Post)

This is the latest challenge over at The Story Matters.

I had fun with this challenge! I have quite a few indulgences actually.

Shoes.
(I was tempted to take pictures of my feet wearing each pair of shows that I do own, though not alot but I take pride in them!! However, I'm short of time to take pictures due to work.)

Coach Bags
(I just started loving them and slowly collecting them thanks to my darling Dave who indulges me with them.)

Starbucks Ice Signature Chocolate/Cafe Mocha with whipped cream.
(who doesn't love them???)

Chocolates (Praline/Truffles)
(pretty common among us women)

Scrapbooking sprees
(this is a no. 1 indulgence for us all isn't it? LOL!)

But I decided to do a more recent indulgence which sadly, contributed to a thicker waistline and major weight gain in a matter of 3 months!

(And no, my running didn't shed much of the dreaded weight)

=(

But I'm glad that I've not bought these sinfully indulgent food items for slightly over a month!

And I plan to continue not indulging in it anymore.

LOL.

So what is it?

Here goes:

{Yummy Donuts from J.Co}

This is stamped with one of the stamps from my Unity Stamps Kit.

Another yummy stamp from my Unity Stamp Kit.

I hope you liked this yummy layout!!! Makes you wanna run out to your nearest J.Co branch and eat some of them yummy donuts eh?

.

.

So what is your INDULGENCE??

Share them with me!!!

Yes and I'll promise to indulge you in yet another RAK!!!!

Even my overseas friends are welcome to participate in this random draw!!

So come join us in sharing your indulgence in a layout over at The Story Matters as well as leave with me a comment on what is your indulgence.
==========================================
p/s: Please do lend Penny your support over at The Story Matters.
Life happens and when it does, it sometimes will slow us down and put some inconvenience in our lives and we need the time to get right back on track.
Anyway, share away with me your indulgence! You have till 14th December 2008!
Will post pictures of the RAK up here later.

I'm thankful for ....

Your Support!
This week over at The Story Matters, it's a "I'm thankful for... challenge"
Take it as a time somehere in the midst of our scrapping schedule to just give thanks!
You might say, "But Sophia, it's been a bad and harrowing week, things are going downhill, what else is there to be thankful for"
If you are a believer like me, let us give thanks that Jesus' grace and mercies are new every morning, that He will give us the grace to overcome and handle whatever situation that we are faced with.
Or the fact that His Word is stable and unchanging in this times of chaotic, unstable changes.
And for the non-believer friends, we can be thankful that we still have the love and support of our spouse, our children, our loved ones.
The little and great blessings that we have had been experiencing for the past year.
Nonethless, I'm sure you have something to give thanks for!! So take this time to reflect and think about it and do a LO - it could be all design with lots of journalling or a photo of the person/s that you want to talk about.
In this case, I'm thankful for Dave's support to me, during my 10K women's run some 3 weeks back. I can never ever emphasize enough, how much my husband's support means to me, coz we are One Flesh! I hope in return I've been a good sport in supporting him too.
Here's my layout.

Close-up shots of the details.

My heartfelt journalling:

I hope you liked this one =)

Dave is coming home to me from HK today, so yay!! Am excited to see him home again. I think Daren will be even more uber excited to see his daddy.
And...
In my being in a super thankful mode, I've changed my playlist to a list of Christian worship songs. I hope it not only blesses you who are believers, but to those who are non-believers too. If it offends you, just press stop the player k?

It's some of my all time favourite songs through my life's journey.
I love the 1st song of the list. It's a more recent song which just moves my heart.
Below is the lyrics of the 1st verse and chorus to share:

I have never walked on water. Felt the waves beneath my feet but
At Your Word Lord I'll receive Your faith to walk on oceans deep.
And I remember how You found me. In that very same place
All my failing surely would have drowned me.
But You made a way.

You are my freedom. Jesus You're the reason.
I'm kneeling again at Your throne.
Where would I be without You.
Here in my life. Here in my life.

(Word and music by Mia Fieldes - Hillsong Publishing)
===========================================

###UPDATED###
On another note:
Something else to make you thankful for as well. I'll be giving away another RAK. This time a humble paper RAK!

A picture speaks a thousand words

## UPDATED##

That's the case for this challenge at The Story Matters.

Sometimes, the picture in itself tells alot of the emotions, the story behind it, the relationships, the love and the joys of life. Like in those inspirational photos that you get in your emails? Not much words needed, just the right music to accompany them.
Isn't that what scrapbooking is about? Letting our pictures tell the story, with some title or journalling to remember the moments at photopoint?

I had to admit I had a tough time for this one as I'm not such a great photographer (compositional wise) and I started to overthink on this one. LOL!

But after some advice from Penny, I decided to follow my guts and did a LO on well, my son and my husband. I decided to keep this LO free from too much embellished sentiments and hope to use the pattern papers to support the story/inspiration I hope to portray.

Here's my take on this fornight's challenge:

{Journey with me}
I played with Picasa, a free photo editing software you could download and play around with basic editing feature. The rest of the picture is Black and White except for the feet where there's color, drawing focus to the point of the feet.

What does this picture in itself tell you? Share with me on your intepretation of the photo and leave me a comment.

I will randomly draw someone from the comments for a RAK by 13th November 2008 (Singapore time)

I'll post up the picture of the RAK later here. =)

So, leave me a comment and also play along with us over at The Story Matters for "The Picture Tells the Story"
In the meantime, do stay tuned for Pink Sketch #12 to be revealed tomorrow! =)

Have a great weekend!!!
============================================
###UPDATED###

Hi Peeps!
As promised. Here's the picture of the RAK I'll be giving away!

I hope you're liking it!
It's a Maya Road People Accordion Chipboard and some yummy Prima flowers which I've bought recently and would like to share some with you.
And I'll be EXTENDING the dateline to 13th Nov 2008 (Singapore time) to randomly draw from the readers' comments.
Come play along k?
Also, if you're just a "silent passing ship" please don't pass me by without saying, "Hi!" I would love to get to know you and say ,"Hi" on your blog too!!!

It's my privilege and honour to share

that I've been invited by Penny Smith to join

The Story Matters Design Team.

*Jaw drops*

Ok, she had asked me couple weeks back =) I was really stunned and awed by the invitation and I enjoyed looking at the site and taking in all the inspirational work done by the awesome DT members. I'm still on a learning journey you know?

I thought about it for a brief while and accepted Penny's invitation.

I'm really looking forward to working along side the rest of the amazing DT members from The Story Matters and to learn from their styles.

It's a inspirational challenge site.

From what I see, it's really to challenge us to give more thought in journalling the details in our scrapbooking as well else what matters deep down in our hearts, memories from a distant past and our beliefs.

Do hop on by The Story Matters site yah? Challenges are up fortnightly! =)
Here's my take on this fornight's challenge:
Description: Dancing had always long been my passion way before marriage, children and even scrapbooking! I enjoyed the arts of modern dancing, tap dancing, jazz and even hip-hop! So much so that my husband and I took a crash course in learning how to salsa for our wedding day! But alas! Child birth and inactivity had caused me to pile on the pounds and I stopped dancing for a long while. This challenge is just but a walk down memory lane for me! I've thrown out my dancing shoes a long time back so I had to google for a pair of lovely tap shoes on google. Credits of photo by Diana DG.
Journalling: Well, I did danced the best of my hippie yuppie years! Looking back, it was really a huge part of me, it still is in fact; in my memories. There are times where I still do wonder if I would still be actively dancing this day if I've not had my boy yet, but that's always been a fleeting thought. Now the only dances that I enjoy are watching dance performances, dance-inspired movies & occasionally dance away with my little boy at home. Life is but a dance, we need to be in tune to the music in out hearts, be led by the Spirit within, flowing with the love & life in our hearts. Sometimes we might not be able to please the judges of our world with pleasing performances; but so long we dance with a clear conscience, a pure heart & with a free spirit, we dance for ourselves & our loved ones. Whether we or rather I get to dance on a reality show or not, it doesn't really matter as I dance to my own beat of my heart.
Thanks Penny and the rest of the TSM DT for this awesome privilege once again!
