New Look for a Fresh Start!

While uploading songs into my iTunes, I was just surfing around and chance upon another free blog skins site and loved the shabby country chic feel of it all.

After all, I've named this blog as PrettyShabbyChic{ky) did't I? duhzzzzz

Ok, I've got some country vintage patterned papers to give away from MME's older range (Wild Asparagus)!

Time for a RAK!

Not sure if anyone else is reading my blog ever... LOL

So post me a comment, leave me a link to blog hop so I can leave some love. Share with me any happy news - what's been happening.

I'll draw a winner by 31st March 2010!!! So spread the word!

That leaves me some time to be able to start scrapping a layout or two or maybe three to start sharing once again.

note to self: dare I even hope to have any friendly faces come by here?

The twist?

Here is my card:

Over at The Story Matters.

Our Fabulous and uber talented Megan Klauer is hosting this month's challenge!

It's very simple. We had to share our favourite summer memory. And the best summer memories I had was in Perth Australia.

Something for Pink Sketches, Sketch #35

Here's my layout on a photo taken last July at my cousin's wedding.

It's a group shot of all the cousins in my generation on my mom's side of the family.

I placed the layout into a Clear Scraps 12 x 12 Frame for my Uncle and Aunt to take back to Perth (they were in town recently and just flew home) to be placed in their home.

I started using my Little Yellow Bicycle Paper Stash that I had in the beginning of this year. :)

Simple but lovely! Don't ya think?

---------------------------------------------------------

For Groovie Cover-It Challenge this month.

Groovie Edleen chose this book cover:

Here is my layout inspired by the cover:

Gotta love me some Sassafrass lass!!!! Yay!

Be sure to check out the Groovie Cover Challenge Blog and look at the rest of the Cover Gals' works! I love the different takes on this one.

-------------------------------------------------------

Last but definitely not least.

I've been honoured over at Ed's Sketch blog as her Guest Designer this month. (Thanks Ed for the honor!)

A double-paged Sketch! (I really think Ed must have Sketched this layout for me! haha!)

So I did a layout for my Ferguson Valley experience in Perth here:

I hope you like this double paged I did. It's more photo heavy than anything else!

Be sure to check out Ed's Sketch Blog! The DT did such an amazing job!

##Some Updates and a RAK Giveaway##

It's been a field week the past 6 days!

No doubt I was busy with Daren, but I was really happy doing it and entertaining him at home to distract him from the itchiness of his Chicken Pox. I feel the bond between my boy and I much much closer than before. It's really a difference as compared to being at work and so caught up with work that I lack the energy to actually spend playing and nuturing him when I get home at the end of the day.

How I long for the day that I can dedicate my time to my boy and my home!

Good news too!

We had a buyer for our home! The advertisement was out on last Thursday and by Saturday, we had a keen and confirmed buyer! The Option to Purchase was signed that night (it was their 3rd time back at the house, they came back a 2nd time with their parents to view the place in the early evening). I'm so glad that the couple is in love with the concept of our home :) I must add that this isn't possible without the Grace and Favor of our Lord Jesus! Not only that, we are able to sell the house above valuation! Imagine that! This is really His favor and goodness in our lives and to God be all the glory!!!

In the meantime, we'll be taking our time to look for an ideal home that's comfortable for our budget. I'm so glad that Dave and I took the time and sit down and work out our sums for the new home. What's the budget for a possible future single income, etc etc.

I just pray that the Lord will lead us into our Promise Land, in this case, a cosy home to grow our Chan family.

Thanks for dropping by today and staying on to the end of this post and I'm in such a delightful mood, I'm gonna dig out some of my treasured scrapbooking possessions of lasered chipboard and papers and little bits and pieces for a RAK!!!

**To double your chances of winning**

1) simply spread the word on your blog and link your blog together with your comments in my comments section.

(I would love to blog hop and visit your blog too!)

Just leave me a comment in this posting for a chance for a RAK by 10th June!!

Love,Sophia

Lack of Updates

Sorry for the lack in updates!
I've been really busy with work.
So much so that when I get back home, I will just go into a "screensaver" mode in front of the computer and then decided I need to go sleep.
So no scrapping and blogging for the past couple nights.
But I will be back with updates of layouts I had done earlier for my DT challenges.
In the meantime,
I will draw the RAK for the posting for "What satisfaction means to you" on 8th Mar 2009, Sunday.
It's stamping related RAK.
So do post your comments and I will get Daren to draw one of your names!
(International Scrappers are welcome too!).
I've been such a Gong...I totally didn't indicate when the dateline to post the comment would be.
So please forgive me k?
*hugs*

Pink Sketches #22 and The Story Matters

*Updated post with picture of RAK*
This weeks sketch over at Pink Sketches:

Here's my take on the sketch:

Title: [D]aren

Description: I rotated the sketch to best suit my boy's portrait photo taken when he was in his Playgroup Class. I had fun with the papers, the alphas and the buttons - making the page look messy, busy and fun to look at! Isn't Playgroup meant to be like that - Fun?

Supplies used: American Crafts Cardstock, Cosmo Cricket Papers, October Afternoon Papers, K.I memories papers, Scrap Within Reach Chipboard Alphas and Numbers, Luxe Labels, 7-Gypsies 97% complete stickers and buttons. (From Scarlet Lime Oct'08 Kit)

I had fun doing this layout. Honestly, I had some challenge using this particular kit to play around with as most of the colours are quite fall-autumn colours. I'm glad that I found the right photo with the papers. I think it worked out splendidly cute!!

I had a busy/rough week and life happens...so I was late in handing in up my layout.

But I'm glad I got it done and submitted to Kelli =)

I hope you'll have fun with this sketch! Do come and play with us over at Pink Sketches yah?

----------------------------------------------------------
Heads up, a new challenge over at The Story Matters.

Care to share them with me?
I'll make sure you are satisfied too with a surprise RAK!

Pink Sketches #17

Here's Pink Sketches #17.

My take on the Sketch.

Playing with my stash of Hamblys and my old stash of Pebbles Inc. paper leftover from Daren's baby layouts which I did.

It's really a progression how I've moved on from baby-boy/children suited patterned papers to more colors and other various type of variety of patterned papers available to us now.

There's a stamp at the corner which says "Good Times" which is from my October Afternoon collection of stamps.

Journalling: Watching you play & bond with Daddy, I just can't help but smile =) When the camera is out, you were ever so willing to go,"One, Two, Smile!" & coyly posed for the camera together with Daddy. It's been a big thing each time you lay your hands on the camera, always looking for Daddy to take self-portraits with you. It goes to show how close your relationship with Daddy is. You never hesitate to look to him to be your source of fun, comfort & tower of strength! Love, Mommy.

Supplies: Hamby Screen Prints, PebblesInc Boys Only Dots pattern paper, EK Success Phrase Cafe Epoxy Stickers, MME's Signature Life accessories

I'll be busy these few days with work before I fly off to Perth.

So I apologize for the lack of real updates and just some quick brief updates of what I'm doing.

Name Your Indulgence!!! (Pre-Recorded Post)

This is the latest challenge over at The Story Matters.

I had fun with this challenge! I have quite a few indulgences actually.

Shoes.
(I was tempted to take pictures of my feet wearing each pair of shows that I do own, though not alot but I take pride in them!! However, I'm short of time to take pictures due to work.)

Coach Bags
(I just started loving them and slowly collecting them thanks to my darling Dave who indulges me with them.)

Starbucks Ice Signature Chocolate/Cafe Mocha with whipped cream.
(who doesn't love them???)

Chocolates (Praline/Truffles)
(pretty common among us women)

Scrapbooking sprees
(this is a no. 1 indulgence for us all isn't it? LOL!)

But I decided to do a more recent indulgence which sadly, contributed to a thicker waistline and major weight gain in a matter of 3 months!

(And no, my running didn't shed much of the dreaded weight)

=(

But I'm glad that I've not bought these sinfully indulgent food items for slightly over a month!

And I plan to continue not indulging in it anymore.

LOL.

So what is it?

Here goes:

{Yummy Donuts from J.Co}

This is stamped with one of the stamps from my Unity Stamps Kit.

Another yummy stamp from my Unity Stamp Kit.

I hope you liked this yummy layout!!! Makes you wanna run out to your nearest J.Co branch and eat some of them yummy donuts eh?

A picture speaks a thousand words

## UPDATED##

That's the case for this challenge at The Story Matters.

Sometimes, the picture in itself tells alot of the emotions, the story behind it, the relationships, the love and the joys of life. Like in those inspirational photos that you get in your emails? Not much words needed, just the right music to accompany them.
Isn't that what scrapbooking is about? Letting our pictures tell the story, with some title or journalling to remember the moments at photopoint?

I had to admit I had a tough time for this one as I'm not such a great photographer (compositional wise) and I started to overthink on this one. LOL!

But after some advice from Penny, I decided to follow my guts and did a LO on well, my son and my husband. I decided to keep this LO free from too much embellished sentiments and hope to use the pattern papers to support the story/inspiration I hope to portray.

Here's my take on this fornight's challenge:

{Journey with me}
I played with Picasa, a free photo editing software you could download and play around with basic editing feature. The rest of the picture is Black and White except for the feet where there's color, drawing focus to the point of the feet.

What does this picture in itself tell you? Share with me on your intepretation of the photo and leave me a comment.

I will randomly draw someone from the comments for a RAK by 13th November 2008 (Singapore time)

I'll post up the picture of the RAK later here. =)

So, leave me a comment and also play along with us over at The Story Matters for "The Picture Tells the Story"
In the meantime, do stay tuned for Pink Sketch #12 to be revealed tomorrow! =)

Have a great weekend!!!

Pink Sketches #2 and Winners for my RAK#1

Really much apologies for the delayed updates. My little pumpkin kept me busy over the weekend as he came down with a nasty viral infection - HFMD (Hand Foot Mouth Disease). It's gotten worst now as the ulcers in his mouth had just sprouted out all over of the insides of his mouth and throat! Makes eating and even drinking fluids so difficult and it gets really worrying, coz with the lack of fluids, we're overtly concerned with his hydration as that's really important for him right now.
Anyway, to share what I did for Pink Sketches - Sketch #2 before the episode.
{Soh & Soul Sisterz)

I tried out Aida's texturing technique in my own interpretation in this LO (as shared from Aida's Buzz and Bloom feature). Of course I didn't do it as nicely as hers, LOL! I'm still experimenting as I'm really intriqued with what she did. I think I spread out my white acrylic paint over the laced CS too thickly. But am still happy with the overall effect.
Supply List: Papers - K.I Memories Laced Cardstock, SEI Poppy PP, Alphas - American Crafts Thickers, Others - Making Memories Acrylic Paint in Spotlight, Stickles in Platinum (on thickers).
Journalling: SOH sisters, that's what we are, more than just being cousins. Our parents taught & instil in us that to love each and look out for each other. At least, that's my role as the eldest cousin. Love my cousins, wouldn't trade them for any other.
My other LO:
{Monkeying Around}

Supply List (from Scarlet Lime's July Kit): Papers - Paper Salon PP, Luxe Flip Flop PP, Alphas - Autumn Leaves Freestyle Alphabet Clear Stamps using Staz On Ink in Cotton White for title. Monkey Face drawn on clear transparency using Zig Opague Markers.
Journalling: 31 July 2008. While waiting for Nana's arrival at the airport, you found ways to entertain yourself. Monkeying around on the bars of the taxi stand! You had so much fun and endless energy! Love, Mom
***********************************************
Winners chosen for my RAK #1 (on my posting of my LOs for Sketch #1) are:
1) redoaklines - Sarah
2) verysherry - Sherry
Congrats gals!! Each of you will get a RAK of 6 stamped journalling 'Remember' tags and some yummy buttons! Kindly email me your mailing address at soh.sophia@gmail.com ok? I'll have them send out to you ASAP!
Have a great time everyone!
Don't forget to play with us for Sketch #2 on Pink Sketches!

My LOs for Pink Sketches #1

Just to share my take on Kelli's sketch #1 for Pink Sketches.
Seeing double? Absolutely not. I was on a scrapping roll while intepretating the sketch and I had 2 different prints of the photo - colour and B&W of my mom and I, taken at the recent Fairfield Founder's Day dinner, celebrating its 120th birthday.
I just love this pic of mom and myself that I just gotta scrap more on it!
{2 Peas in a Pod}

Journalling:

{Fairsianz Alwayz}

Journalling as follows:

I hope you like what I did =)

Dave thought the 2nd LO looked more nostalgic =) I liked it in a way coz of the vintagey look I tried to create. A fusion of styles (Aida and Kelly) from some Shabby Chic workshops I attended quite some time back in 2007.

I've grown to love the soft distressing shabby chic style since and try to incorporate into my layouts every now and then.

Hope you like the LOs too.

Thanks for looking and do remember to play along over at Pink Sketches!

***************************************************

Been seeing alot of the {Remember} journalling stamp in my LOs recently? Love them? I got those from my Scarlet Lime July Kit.

If you love them as much as I do and would love to have them in your LOs as part of a journalling tag, leave me a comment. I'll randomly pick 2 viewers and stamp out a couple of the journalling tags and have them sent out to you ya?

Have a great week ahead!

##Yikes! I forgot to mention, I will draw 2 random winners by 23rd August 2008##
